The RSS Blog

News and commentary from the RSS and OPML community.

Sauce Reader is a pretty good RSS reader.

  • The post to Weblogs, "Weblog This" is a little confusing, but that's mostly due to the confusing nature of BloggerAPI and MetaWeblogAPI. I get about one error in every 10 posts. Overall, it's likely the best/easiest non-Web posting client.
  • The reader is pretty good, but contains one really annoying bug, that the listview is not automagically automated as new items arrive. I actually have to change folders to make this happen.
  • I'm one of those people that wants to know what I don't know I don't know. There needs to be a mode that allows me to read the latest unread items and excludes read items entirely.
  • I don't like the 4 hour polling interval, which I quickly set to 1 hour. But worse is the poll all feeds every x hours at the same time metaphor. Yahoo! feeds have a TTL of 5 minutes. Sauce Reader could use this value to increase to polling frequency by default. And why not space out the polling so that items are trickling in throughout the hour, rather than 50 items all at once.
  • Version 1.8 shouldn't be a Beta anymore.

Nathan Wallace: Just wanted to check that you'd noticed "Tools -> Options -> Display -> Over View -> Only show unread items and comments". While all items are shown in the Items window grid, the Browser window will only show unread items with this option turned on.
