Today, I played a bit with OPML Manager. It's very cool. You can easy create your own OPML file. I was able to quickly import my entire OPML reading list. But at the end of the day, it left me wanting more.
- I wanted to drag my outlines around and reorganize them into folders. Couldn't figure out how.
- I wanted to create a second OPML file. Couldn't figure out how.
I ended up simply importing my OPML from Google Reader. There's big unexplored potential here.
OPML stands for Outline Processor Markup Language. An OPML file is an XML-based format designed to represent and exchange hierarchically arranged outlines — essentially, tree-structured lists of items — between different applications and platforms. It’s most commonly used for sharing collections like RSS subscription lists, directories, or any structured information with nested entries.
In RSS it is mostly used to collect lists of RSS feeds to which a user subscribes. A common misconception is that an RSS-to-OPML conversion is needed. RSS feeds are presented in OPML so that people can share their RSS subscriptions.
